Learn to Dance: How to Look Sexy on the Dancefloor
Every wonder why dancing shows promote the girls as graceful swans while guys get no respect even though they’re dancing the same difficult routines? (Although I must admit, seeing brawny athletes perform ballet dance lessons is like watching a car crash – you’re afraid to look but you can’t help it.)
The few who are coordinated, the professional ones – are almost as pitiful. It’s a shame that we still live in a world where straight men dancing in tights are sometimes misunderstood. They say real men can’t bend like that or learn to dance that. Either that or we get the ‘He must be gay’ excuse.
But there’s hope. When ‘Saturday Night Fever’ came, John Travolta made dancing a manly thing. Not only that, it was sexy! He’s no dance instructor nor does he moonwalk like Michael Jackson, but he made the average Joe look like a king on the dance floor. If you want to learn to dance like a man, here are some pointers for your own DIY dance lessons:
1. Leave skin tight ballroom clothes and slicked back hair to the pros. No matter what people say, don’t be tempted to relive the 70’s. You can get some good wardrobe ideas from magazines and work in your own personal style.
2. Experiment with your favorite music. Its good to start out with cool Reggae or R & B beats to sharpen your sense of rhythm. Their songs offer a lot of good dance beats that need only minimal body movements (bobbing your head counts). The next step is to learn to dance using your hips. Take a cue from Elvis – he had women swooning with every shake of his hips.
3. Channel your inner James Dean. (Yes, even James Dean had to dance sometime.) Practice your death stare and mysterious smile until you can melt people into a puddle. Slow dancing was practically invented for this dance move.
4. Keep it simple. While your hips are the main attraction, your hands should still have something to do. Use them to clap or snap your fingers to the rhythm. Just don’t do it too much or you’ll end up looking like a dork.
Learning to dance isn’t as hard as it looks once you got the look right. Let loose and let the rhythm set the mood. The hippest moves don’t count if you’re not enjoying yourself! Have fun and you’ll be surprised at how women will follow your every move – even off the dancefloor.
